Ike Kiro Earns East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week; Uzcategui Makes Honor Roll

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - University of the District of Columbia junior Ike Kiro was named the East Coast Conference men's tennis player of the week for his performance in the week ending April 7th. Kiro's doubles partner, junior Miguel Uzcategui was named to the ECC Honor Roll.

Kiro (Business Management - Milnerton Ridge, South Africa/Milnerton HS) played a pivotal role in the Firebirds' back-to-back signature wins over two top-five teams in the East Region. First, against No. 2 Queens College, he teamed up with Uzcategui (Electrical Engineering - Valencia, Venezuela/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) for a thrilling 9-8 (4) doubles win over Nikolaj Wulff and Andre Pellgrino. Later that day, Kiro topped Wulff in singles action by a score of 6-2, 6-1. The following day at NYIT, Kiro and Uzcategui defeated Tomas Lieb and Julian Marcon, 8-2, and Kiro then posted a 6-3, 6-2 singles win over Mircea Dimofte.

This marks the third time this season a Firebird student-athlete has been named the ECC player of the week with senior Aleksandar Grabovac (Psychology - Ljubljana, Slovenia) taking the honor in consecutive weeks on March 19th and March 25th.

The Firebirds have a week off before they host the No. 1 ranked team in the East Region, Concordia, in the regular season finale. Grabovac, the team's lone senior, will be honored before the match along with Ty Abilla and Kristyna Nepivodova of the women's team.
