The Firebirds received their first win of the day by junior Miguel Uzcategui (Electrical Engineering – Valencia, Venezuela/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) and junior Ike Kiro (Undecided – Milnerton Ridge, South Africa/Milnerton HS) defeating doubles partners Tomas Lieb and Julian Marcon of NYIT, 8-2.

District of Columbia Claims Victory Over Chestnut Hill, 6-3

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team picked up their fifth win of the season with a 6-3 victory over Chestnut Hill.  With the victory, the team improved to 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in ECC play.

The day started off at the No. 3 doubles match.  The Firebirds doubles team of junior Carlos Quiroga (Electrical Engineering – Valencia, Venezuela/Maria Montessori) and tennis newcomer, freshman Simon Bratke (Undecided – Bonn, Germany/Collegium Josephinum Bonn) fell to the Chestnut Hill team of Mike Humes and Manuel Ceniceros, 8-3.  The Firebirds received their first win of the day at the No. 1 doubles match as senior Aleksandar Grabovac (Psychology – Ljubljana, Slovenia/Gimnazija Euro Sola Ljubljana) and sophomore Simon Andersson (Business Management – Ystad, Sweden/Sydskanska Gymnasiet) defeated Yoaann Pham and Stephen Say, 8-3.  The doubles team of junior Miguel Uzcategui (Electrical Engineering – Valencia, Venezuela/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) and junior Ike Kiro (undecided – Milnerton Ridge, South Africa/Milnerton HS) picked up the second Firebirds victory with an 8-4 win over Kevin Taylor and Anthony Moore of Chestnut Hill.

The Firebirds claimed the first singles match of the day with Kiro defeating Pham 6-3, 6-1.  Grabovac was able to complete a come-from-behind victory over Humes in the No. 1 singles match by a score of 0-6, 6-3, 6-0.  The Griffins received their first singles victory of the day from Taylor, who defeated Bratke 6-2, 6-0. 

Needing just one more win to secure the overall victory, the Firebirds picked up a close win by Uzcategui over Moore 4-6, 6-0,6-3.  The final two matches of the day were split between the two teams.  The firebirds claimed the No. 5 singles match with Quiroga defeating Ceniceros 6-2, 6-2 and the Griffins picked up the No. 4 singles victory with Say winning over Andersson 6-2, 6-4.

District of Columbia will be back in action at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26 away at Georgetown University.
