PHILADELPHIA, PA – Freshman Fabian Patrutescu advanced to the semifinal round of the Singles B bracket while juniors Miguel Uzcategui and Carlos Quiroga advanced to the Doubles B bracket as the University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team competed in day two of the ITA East Regional Championship in Philadelphia.

Patrutescu (Business Management – Timisoara, Romania/L.P.S. Banatul Timisoara) defeated Chestnut Hill's Anthony Moore, 8-4 in the round of 16, and then he downed Southern Connecticut's Nick Hyzak, 8-2 to advance to tomorrow's semifinal round of the Singles B bracket. Quiroga (Electrical Engineering – Valencia, Venezuela/Maria Montessori) bested Philip Kladis (So. Connecticut), 8-2 in the round of 16 before falling, 8-2 to Steve Galerkin of Usciences in the quarterfinals.

Senior Aleksandar Grabovac (Psychology – Ljubljana, Slovenia/Gimnazija Euro Sola Ljubljana) also reached the quarterfinals by virtue of an exciting, 7-6 (6), 5-7, 10-4 victory over Merrimack's Chris Barnhart, but was then defeated, 6-0, 6-2 by No. 10 seed Andreas Lindell of Concordia.

In Men's B doubles play, the Firebirds pair of Uzcategui (Electrical Engineering – Valencia, Venzuela/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) and Quiroga defeated a doubles team from Adelphi and Merrimack to advance to tomorrow's championship match.

Patrutescu will continue play in the Men's B singles bracket while Uzcategui and Quiroga will play their final match when play resumes tomorrow.
