Host of Firebirds Earn All-East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Honors

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - The University of the District of Columbia's Aleksandar Grabovac and Bruno Reich earned First Team All-East Coast Conference and Tomas Gajdusek and Simon Andersson were named to the Second Team, as the league office announced the 2012 All-Conference honors on Thursday, April 19th.

Grabovac (Ljubljana, Slovenia - Gimnazija Euro Sola Ljubljana) was 13-5 at No. 1 singles and teamed up with Andersson for a 15-4 mark at No. 1 doubles. Ranked No. 13 in the East Region, the imposing, 6'3'', 207 lb. Grabovac earned two impressive singles wins over NYIT's Dustin Wenchel (15th) and one win over Dowling's Victor Kim (19th). He and Andersson are the No. 9 ranked doubles team in the region, and they boast wins over the No. 5 ranked team from NYIT, Dustin Wenchel and Pedro Peixoto, and the No. 8 ranked team from USciences, David Kazakevich and Alvaro Vargas.

Reich, a senior from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Colegio Tempo de Aprender, was 16-2 at No. 3 singles and teamed up with classmate Tomas Gajdusek for a 13-4 record at No. 2 doubles. Reich is the No. 18 ranked singles player in the East Region and features a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over Queens' Nikolaj Wulff - the No. 8 ranked singles player in the region. His only two losses of the season came to a Division I player from Georgetown and the 10th ranked singles player in the region - Concordia's Mark Mozer.

Gajdusek, who has now earned all-conference honors in each of the past three seasons, was 13-5 at No. 2 singles and 13-4 at No. 2 doubles this season. He is the No. 14 ranked singles player in the region. A senior, Gajdusek hails from Prague, Czech Republic where he attended Gymnazium Nad Stolou. A Finance major at UDC, he was the 2010-11 ECC Student-Athlete of the Year.

Andersson (Ystad, Sweden - Sydskanska Gymnasiet) has had a terrific freshman campaign in which he earned a team-best record of 17-2 at No. 5 singles and teamed up Grabovac at No. 1 doubles for a 15-4 mark. Andersson was named ECC rookie of the week four different weeks this season. He and Grabovac defeated two regionally-ranked doubles teams this season, and currently rank No . 9 in the East Region.

The Firebirds (16-3) will play in their second consectutive ECC Finals match this afternoon on the road at top-seeded Queens College. The match begins at 12:45 p.m.
