Firebirds Men's Tennis Soars to 9-0 Victory on Senior Day

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team impressed on Senior Day in a lopsided victory against Virginia State, 9-0 Tuesday afternoon at the UDC Tennis Courts.

The No. 3 regionally ranked Firebirds, playing their last non-conference opponent of the season, earned a win to finish 12-2 in non-conference play. They improved their overall record to 13-3.
Seniors Tomas Gajdusek (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Nad Stolou)  and Bruno Reich (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Tempo de Aprender)  were honored for their special careers at UDC. In his three years at UDC Gajdusek amassed a singles record of 38-11 and a doubles record of 24-19. In 2009-10 he was named East Coast Conference Player of the Year. The next season he was named ECC Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In Bruno's two seasons as a Firebird he has amassed a doubles record of 25-3 and 17-9 doubles record. Last season he was ranked 13th in singles for the east region and received first-team all East Coast Conference honors.   
This afternoon, in the home finale for the Firebirds, sophomores Miguel Uzcategui (Valencia, Venezuela/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) and Carlos Quiroga (Valencia, Venezuela/Maria Montessori) paced the Firebirds with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles. UDC didn't look back as they won the next two doubles matches and continued to look dominant as they won all six of their singles matches.
The Firebirds will travel to West Islip, NY to face East Coast Conference foe Dowling College on Friday April 13th.
