University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis Shuts Down USciences
PHILADELPHIA - The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team earned another impressive, lopsided victory to complete its weekend in Philadelphia, as the Firebirds flew right past USciences, 9-0 on Sunday afternoon at McNeil Field Courts.
Having just earned a No. 3 ranking in the NCAA East Region poll, District of Columbia first defeated No. 7 Chestnut Hill, 8-1 on Friday afternoon, then went across town to sweep USciences just two days later to improve to 4-1 against the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The Firebirds improved to 11-2 overall while the Devils fell to 4-5.
In doubles play, the Firebirds' second and third doubles teams won convincingly by scores of 8-2 and 8-1, respectively. The first doubles team of Aleksandar Grabovac and Simon Andersson had to endure a strong fight before pulling out a 9-8 victory to complete the sweep.
The Firebirds were just as dominant in singles play, sweeping all six matches. Tomas Gajdusek bounced back from a tough loss on Friday as he gutted out a 6-7, 6-4, 10-1 comeback victory at No. 2 singles. The other five Firebird singles players won with relative ease, particularly Andersson, who won his No. 5 singles match, 6-0, 6-0.
