University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis Falls to No. 4 Concordia

BRONXVILLE, NY - The No. 48th ranked University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team was defeated by the No. 4th ranked team in the country, Concordia College (NY), 7-2 on Friday afternoon at Meyers Tennis Court.

The Clippers, who have not lost a match in the East Region since the 2006-07 season and have gone to four straight NCAA Division II Final Fours, improved to 8-4 overall this season. The Firebirds, who suffered their first loss to a Division II opponent this season, fell to 9-2 overall.

Concordia raced out to a 3-0 lead by claiming victory in all three doubles matches. The Clippers then earned four straight singles victories to clinch the match before the Firebirds battled for victories at the No. 5 and 6 spots.

Sophomore Carlos Quiroga (Valencia, Venezuela - Maria Montessori) defeated Concordia's Jason Quintana, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot for District of Columbia's first point of the afternoon. Freshman Simon Andersson (Ystad, Sweden/Sydskanska Gymnasiet) followed with a gutty performance at No. 5 singles, outlasting Ricardo Frey 4-6, 6-2, 10-7.

The Firebirds were scheduled to play on the road at George Washington on Sunday, but the match was postponed due to rain. UDC will next travel to Philadelphia to take on Chestnut Hill College on March 31st at 1:00 p.m.
