University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis Sweeps ECC Weekly Awards

CENTRAL ISLIP - Sophomore Aleksandar Grabovac was named East Coast Conference men's tennis player of the week and freshman Simon Andersson earned rookie of the week as the University of the District of Columbia swept the ECC awards for the week ending March 11th, 2012.

Grabovac (Ljubljana, Slovenia - Gimnazija Euro Sola Ljubljana) was 2-0 at both No. 1 singles and doubles last week, helping the Firebirds go 2-0 for the week in two non-conference matches and improve to 8-0 on the season. He is now 6-2 this season at No. 1 singles and he and partner Simon Andersson are a perfect 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Meanwhile, Andersson (Ystad, Sweden - Sydskanska Gymnasiet) was also 2-0 at both No. 5 singles and No. 1 doubles last week. He is a perfect 8-0 in singles and doubles play this year.

The Firebirds are currently ranked No. 48 in the ITA national poll and 3rd in the East Region. They are undefeated at 8-0 having just won both their matches over the weekend versus Post University and Adelphi University. UDC is a combined 45-3 in singles matches and 23-1 in doubles matches this season.

District of Columbia visits Division I Georgetown on March 14th, and then hosts West Chester on March 17th.
