University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis Improves to 8-0; Firebirds Soar Past Adelphi, 9-0

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia earned its second consecutive shutout victory in a span of three days, as the Firebirds soared past East Region foe Adelphi, 9-0 on Sunday afternoon at Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.

District of Columbia (8-0) swept all six singles matches and all three doubles matches to stay unbeaten and collect its fourth shutout win of the season. Adelphi fell to 2-5 with the loss.

In doubles play, Tomas Gajdusek and Bruno Reich picked up the match's first point with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles to stay perfect at 6-0 on the season. Miguel Uzcategui and Carlos Quiroga followed shortly thereafter with an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles and improved to 6-1 for the year.

Aleksandar Grabovac and Simon Andersson had their hands full at No. 1 doubles, but they pulled through with an 8-6 victory to keep their perfect record in-tact at 8-0 for the season. 

In singles play, Grabovac earned the first win at the top spot, 6-2, 6-2. He was followed quickly by Reich, who cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Gajdusek defeated Chiwete Njokanma, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 singles for the third singles win, followed by Uzcategui, Andersson and Quiroga, respectively.

The Firebirds are currently ranked No. 48 in the ITA national poll and No. 3 in the East Region. They will visit Division I crosstown rival Georgetown on Wednesday, March 14th at 2:00 p.m.
