University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis Sweeps Post University, 9-0

WATERBURY, CT - The University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team improved to 7-0 on the season as the Firebirds swept non-conference, East Region foe, Post University, 9-0 on Friday afternoon at Danbury Sport & Wellness Center.

The No. 48 nationally-ranked Firebirds earned all three doubles wins and all six singles wins for their third shutout victory of the season. Post, of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, fell to 0-2 on the season.

Reigning East Coast Conference player of the week Tomas Gajdusek teamed up with Bruno Reich for a dominant, 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Miguel Uzcatequi and Carlos Quiroga followed with a just as impressive 8-0 victory at No. 3, and Aleksandar Grabovac and Simon Andersson completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory at No. 1.

The Firebirds took three of the six singles matches in straight sets, as Reich (No. 3), Uzcatequi (No. 4) and Quiroga (No. 6) each won, 6-0, 6-0. Andersson also won his No. 5 singles match comfortably, 6-0, 6-1.

Gajdusek had a battle early on versus Post's Christ-Brian Amedjonkeou, but pulled out a 7-5 first-set victory and then cruised 6-0 in the second set to win at No. 2 singles. Grabovac also had to withstand a tough fight from Post's Peter Fanous at No. 1 singles, but the Slovenia native came through with a 6-4, 6-3 victory to complete the match sweep.
