UDC Men’s Tennis Competes at Georgetown Classic
Washington, DC - The Men's Tennis Team competed this weekend in the Georgetown Classic located at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex in Washington, DC. Play began on Saturday with competition going through Sunday.
On Saturday, Sophomore Aleksandar Grabovac and Sophomore Miguel Uzcategui led the way. Grabovac started off by defeating Georgetown's Brian Ward in his first match, 10-6. He then went on to take down Christian Hodel in the Round of 16 by a score of 10-5. It was not until the Quarter-final game when Grabovac fell to Andrew Bruhn in a close competition, 10-6.
Uzcategui, after suffering a tough 10-3 loss in the 1st round to Shane Korber (Georgetown), rebounded in the consolation draw by dominating Lehigh's Edgars Rauza by a score of 8-0 in the Round of 16. He went on to the Quarter-finals and defeated John Brosens 8-4. On Sunday's Semi-final game he matched up against Brian Ward and fell short in a hard fought battle by a score of 4-6, 7-5, 10-8.
Head Tennis Coach T. Richard Mahaffey was pleased with his team's performance at the tournament and is ready to compete at home again.
The Firebirds return to the courts on October 12th when they face Shepherd University at the UDC Tennis Facility.
