UDC Men’s Tennis Dominates 8-1 in Season Opener Against NYIT
Washington, DC - The UDC Men's Tennis Team was victorious at home today at the UDC Tennis Facility in Washington, DC. The Firebirds matched up against East Coast Conference (ECC) foe New York Institute of Technology and dominated the day by going 8-1.
Sophomore Aleksandar Grabovac and Freshman Simon Andersson came out and defeated Dustin Wenchel and Voja Pecikoza 8-3. Andersson also went on to win his singles match against Eduardo Maurtua, 6-2, 6-1.
In singles competition, the Firebirds won all of their matches. Junior Tomas Gjdusek won against Voja Pecikoza 7-6(7), 6-2 and Sophomore Miguel Uzcategui won the battle against Julian Marcon 7-5, 6-2. Also Junior Bruno Reich defeated Pedro Peixoto by a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Head Tennis Coach T. Richard Mahaffey was very pleased with his team's first win of the year and in the East Coast Conference.
The Firebirds return to the courts next week on Tuesday against Mount Saint Mary's at the UDC Tennis Facility.
