Bruno Reich wins 2nd ECC "Rookie of the Week" Honor This Season

Firebirds Head to NY and East Coast Conference Championships as Reich Garners "Rookie of the Week" Again

April 19,2011: Washington,DC: The University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis squad is on its way to the Alley Pond Tennis Center in Queens Village, NY for the ECC Championships, April 20 and 21. The semi-final round will start Wednesday morning at 10:30am. If successful, the Firebirds will play in the final the next day also at 10:30am. Before they left for New York, the team got good news.

Bruno Reich (Jr.-Rio de Janeiro,Brazil) won "Rookie of the Week" honors for the second time this season as he went 2 and 0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles for the Firebirds last week. Reich won both of his #2 singles matches, defeating NYIT's Flip Van Eylen, 6-0, 6-2 and Queens' Nikolaj Wulff 6-3, 6-3. Reich also teamed up with Tomas Gajdusek to defeat Vojislav Pecikoza and Julian Marcon of NYIT 8-3 in a doubles victory.

Coach Dickie Mahaffey had this to say about the ECC Tournament: " The guys are feeling very good about their games heading into the conference championships, despite the loss to Queens on Saturday. We are looking forward to our semi-final match on Wednesday."

No.2 seed UDC will play the loser of the Dowling College and St. Thomas Aquinas College match on Wednesday at 10:30am at the Alley Pond Tennis Center.
