Flushing,NY-April 16,2011: The East Regions #2 ranked team, Queens College, took it to The University of the District of Columbia ( #4 in the region ) 8 to 1 on Saturday afternoon in New York.

This match up of East Coast Conference rivals may have NCAA implications and very well could be repeated at the ECC Men's Tennis Championships this week. Queens College is also ranked #26 nationally in Division II in the latest ITA ( Intercollegiate Tennis Association ) poll. UDC fought hard and had some intense matches but only Bruno Reich (Business Major- Rio de Janeiro,Brazil ) came up with a win, 6-3, 6-3 over Nikolaj Wulff of Queens. The Firebirds top player, Tomas Gajdusek (Finance Major-Prague, Czech Republic ) lost a very exciting match to Queens College #1, Attila Toth, 11-9 in a 3rd set tie-breaker.

UDC finishes the regular season at 12 and 4 and 3-1 in The East Coast Conference. Coach Dickie Mahaffey, having a #4 East Region ranking going into the weekend " felt honored" to be recognized for the competition the Firebirds have played. " It puts us in a good position to get selected for the post-season", Mahaffey said. After the loss to #26 in the nation Queens, Coach Mahaffey was asked if the defeat hurt UDC's chances. " I hope not" he said. "But we now turn to the ECC tournament. We don't know the match-ups at this stage, but we'd like another shot at Queens thats for sure."

The ECC Championships for Men's Tennis will be hosted by the New York Institute of Technology on April 20th and 21st.
