UDC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams Get Solid NCAA D2 East Region Wins

 

Washington, DC-  The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's & Women's Tennis Teams continued to solidify their overall performances on the court this past week, getting impressive wins in most of their matches.

In men's play, Tomas Gajdusek (Finance-Prague, Czech Republic) had a good week and his teammate Bruno Reich (Business Management- Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) continued to perform well at the #2 position.

The Firebird Women also had outstanding performances during the week, led by freshman Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering- Guayaquil, Ecuador), junior Kristyna Nepivodova (Economics- Breznice, Czech Republic), and sophomore Tadai Abilla (Television Production-Galloway, NJ). Nunez, pre-season #11 ranked East Region singles player, defeated East Region #5 ranked player from Chestnut Hill in their singles match.

Head Tennis Coach Dickie Mahaffey is pleased with his team's efforts, stating, "The matches this week were not easy. They fought some tough battles; particularly Tomas, who had an exceptional week. Bruno as well.  The two continued to complement each other in solid doubles play."

 

On Sunday March 20, the Firebirds Men defeated the East Region #8 ranked Chestnut Hill College Griffins, 6-3, in match play, while the Firebird Women secured a 5-4 win over the Griffin Women.

The Firebirds Men defeated the East Region #4 ranked Philadelphia University Rams, 6-3, in match play, while the Firebirds Women secured a 9-0 over the Rams Women.

 On Wednesday, March 16, both teams fell to Mount St. Mary's University. The Men were defeated 3-4, while the Women dropped their match 1-6.

 The Firebirds Women defeated the Trinity University Tigers 6-0 on Tuesday, March 15.

 On March 5, the Firebirds Men defeated Post University 9-0, at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center in Washington, DC.

 The Firebird Men are now 6-2 overall, and the Women are 5-9. The Men return to the court on March 23, at Georgetown University, and the Women will see action again on March 26, at Kutztown University.
