TENNIS TEAMS SWEEP HOOD COLLEGE

Frederick, Maryland—April 20, 2006:  Frederick, Maryland was the perfect host city for the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Tennis Team today as they defeated the hometown Hood College Blazers 6-1 in tennis competition. Hood's balls just wouldn't land inside the lines and UDC took advantage of the opportunity by winning both singles and doubles competition.

In singles competition Robin Janos defeated Moga Nkate 6-0,6-3, Festus Okoya defeated Carlos Funes 6-0, 6-0, and Olumide Akinwande defeated Colin Reitman 6-3, 6-4. Also winning were Shawn Cummings who defeated Tyler Dixon 6-2, 6-2; William Kellibrew over Greg Schinner 6-0,6-1. The Firebirds' only loss came when Nick Gunther defeated Donnell Ellis 6-2, 6-3.

UDC won all of the doubles matches. Robin Janos and Olumide Akinwande defeated Nick Gunther and Colin Reitman 8-1. Shawn Cummings and William Kellibrew defeated Tyler Dixon and Moga Nkate 11-10. Festus Okoya and Donnell Ellis defeated Carlos
Funte and Greg Schinner 8-4.
