Firebirds Battle to Draw Against The Rock

BOYDS, MD- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team withstood high heat conditions to tie with Slippery Rock University 2-2, Wednesday afternoon at the Maryland SoccerPlex Stadium.

Ignacio Pericet and Santiago Gordillo Martinez  was responsible for the Firebirds two goals, both of which were assisted by Vasco Irazola.

The first half of play saw the Firebirds fire nine shots compared to the Rock's three. After 30 minutes of close attempts, Pericet was able to connect to the back of the net giving UDC the 1-0 lead going into the half.

The second half saw a quick turn of events, as the Rock scored on a defelction off of the Firebirds goalkeeper to even the score, just five minutes in. One minute later the Rock was awarded a penalty kick, which they converted to a goal, to take the 2-1 lead over UDC. 

Gordillo Martinez scored the equalizer six minutes later, which turned out to be the final goal of the match. 

Up next, UDC (1-1-1) will head to Pennsylvania on Saturday to face off against West Chester University. Tip-off is set for 2:30 PM.
