Firebirds Feature Four Scorers En Route to Victory Over Chargers

ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- After a rough couple of weeks, The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team bounced back to the win column, defeating Dominican University 4-1, to pick up a non conference victory. The Firebirds improved to 6-7-1 overall and the Chargers fell to 1-11-4.

Four Firebirds found their way onto the scoreboard, which is the most goals scored in a game all season. Jake Bedforth scored the Firebirds Lone goal of the first half, before Axel Gamez, Santiago Gordillo Martinez and Zachary Parker all struck in the second half. Joseluiz Avalos also led the team with a game high two assists. 

 Eight minutes into the game, the Chargers took the 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, UDC responded to bring the game to a tie which they brought into the half. 

Gamez gave the Firebirds the lead coming off the break with the assists coming from Avalos and David Box. Less than six minutes later UDC found themselves up 4-1, after Martinez and Parker went back to back on goals. The home team was unable to answer as the Firebirds flew away with the victory.

UDC (6-7-1, 1-5 ECC) will play their last home game of the season on Saturday in a conference match up against Staten Island at the Segra Field. The Firebirds will also honor 11 seniors for senior day. The presentaion will begin at 12:50 PM and tip off at 1:00 PM.
