Firebirds Lose Out on Potential ECC Tournament Bid after Suffering Tough Loss to Spartans

GERMANTOWN, MD- The University of the District of Columbia's mens soccer team fell to St Thomas Aquinas College 1-3, Saturday afternoon at the Maryland SoccerPlex Stadium. The Firebirds fell to 5-7-1 on the season and 1-5 in ECC play subsequently losing out on any post season dreams.
The visiting Spartans took a 1-0 lead into the half after striking in the ninth minuteof the first half. Defender Keino Thompson headed in a pass from defender Eduardo Bugay to register his second goal on the season and to tie he game 1-1 with about 25 minutes remianing in regulation.
The next 20 minutes saw STAC's offense strike twice, which went unanswered by the Firebirds. UDC outshot STAC 19-11 and had the edge on corner kicks 4-3 but was denied 12 times by the Spartans Goalkeeper.
UDC will head to N.Y. to face off against Dominican College in a nonconference match up, on Wednesday. The game is slated tp begin at 2:00 PM.
