GERMANTOWN, MD- The University of the District of Columbia fell 1-2 to Conference foe Roberts Wesleyan, Saturday afternoon at the Maryland SoccerPlex Stadium. The Firebirds fell to 4-3-1, 0-1 in the league, while the Redhawks improved to 4-3-1, 1-0-1 in league play.
Junior defender Keino Thompson, scored UDC's lone goal of the day, heading in a cross from a free kick made by Joseluiz Avalos in the 87th minute.
Both of RWC's goals game late in the first half, with the Redhawks outshooting the Firebirds 7-4 and putting pressure on the UDC defense.
The second half saw the Firebirds take more control of the ball offensivley, outshooting the visiting team 8-4, and creating more opportunities, which unfortunately didn't land.
At the 87th minute was when the Firebirds finally found their way onto the scoreboard to deter the Redhawks hopes of a shutout. UDC hustled the last three minutes to try and find the equalizer but RWC's defense was able to hold on for the win.
UDC (4-3-1, 0-1 ECC) will head to N.Y. to continue Conference play, facing off against Molloy College at 7pm.
