WASHINGTON, DC- Ignacio Pericet's sixth minute penalty goal turned out to be the game winner in the University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team 1-0 home victory over Gannon University. The Firebirds improved to 4-2-1 overall, while the Golden Knights fell to 3-2-1.
Despite the vistors dominating posession, they weren't able to convert as the Firebird defense buckled down to force the shuout. Goalkeeper Javier Abadia Torres led the way making a season high 10 saves.
The Golden Knights outshot the Firebirds 24-5, and had the advantage in corner kicks 11-1.
This marks UDC's first win over Gannon University since the early 2000's, making the all-time series 4-5-0.
UDC (4-2-1, 0-0 ECC) will open up conference play this Saturday, as they host Roberts Wesleyan at the Maryland SoccerPlex at 1:00 pm.
