Firebirds Unable to Convert; Falls 0-1 to SRU on the Road

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team fell to Slippery Rock University 0-1, Saturday afternoon at the James Egli Field. UDC falls to 3-2-1 on the season as SRU improves to 2-2-1 overall.

After a save by goalkeeper, Javier Abadia Torres in the first minute, SRU's Arturo Pla Hernandis managed to send a cross from his teammate, past Torres and into the net. This goal turned out to be the decisive goal of the match, as the Firebirds were unable to convert any of their five attempts.

UDC spent majority of the game trying to find the equalizer to no avail. Axel Gamez had a team high two shots on goal, one of which came in the 75th minute but was stopped by SRU's goalie Hossam Aly. The Firebirds last chance at a goal came from a corner kick in the 84th minute, as Liam Thompson crossed the ball into the box, which the Slippery Rock's keeper got a piece of before the referee called offside on UDC.

While UDC managed to control the ball for most of the game, the home team outshot their offense 8-5. The Firebirds had the upperhand on corner kicks 5-0.

UDC (3-2-1, 0-0 ECC) will host Gannon at the RFK Fields on Wednesday at noon.
