Firebirds Road Trip to American Int'l Ends in Draw

SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against American Int'l, Saturday afternoon at the Abdow Field. Santiago Gordillo Martinez scored the Firebirds lone goal, which was assisted by Keino Thompson.

It was UDC who made their way on the scoresheet first with Martinez sinking a feed from Thompson with just a little over two minutes to go in the first half, to take the 1-0 lead.  This lead lasted until the 67th minute, after AIC's defender Gianfranco Lopreiato scored an unassisted goal to even thre score 1-1. 

AIC's goal turned out to be the last of the day, as neither teams were able to get the ball to the back of the net for the rest of regulation. 

The visiting Firebirds had the edge on corner kicks 5-1, but both teams were even in shots, taking seven apiece. 

Next up UDC (2-1-1, 0-0 ECC) will host East Stroudsburg, on Tuesday September 6th, at the RFK Fields at noon.
