Bedforth Scores Lone Goal in Firebirds First Defeat of the Season

WASHINGTON, D.C- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team picked up their first loss of the season, after falling to West Chester University 1-2, Wednesday afternoon at the RFK Fields. Graduate student, Jake Bedforth scored his first collegiate goal, which was also the Firebirds lone goal on the day.

UDC found themselvces playing catch up after the Golden Rams took the early lead, scoring a little over nine minutes into the first half. The Firebirds responded by turning up the offensive pressure and out- shooting WCU 5-2, but couldn't make the connection to the back of the net, retiring the first half scoreless.

At the 52nd minute teammate Zouhir Warid, would set up a cross perfectly for Bedforth to finish off, heading the ball straight to the back of the net and evening out the score 1-1. Both teams then went tit for tat with shots but goalkeepers Javier Abadia Torres and Daniel Good kept denying each attempt. West Chester offense was eventually able to breakthrough scoring in the 77th minute, reclaiming the lead and once again leaving the Firebirds to play catch up.

Despite last minute attempts to even out the score, UDC kept getting denied by the Golden Rams Goalie, inevitably leading to their first loss of the season.

UDC (2-1, 0-0 ECC) will travel to Boston to face off against American international, this Saturday the 3rd. The game is slated to begin at 2:00 PM.
