Firebirds Overtaken by Redhawks; UDC Clinches ECC Tournament Berth as the No.2 Seed

ROCHESTER, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team fell to Roberts Wesleyan 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, to close out regular season play with an 8-5-3 overall record and a 5-1-3 conference record. UDC will go into the ECC playoffs as the No.2 seed, the highest ranking in program history.

With the Firebirds ECC tournament bid already secured going into today's match-up against the Redhawks, a win would have secured the top seed and the regular season Champions title. However, UDC would take their first conference loss after a goal by Roberts Wesleyan's Ryan Curtis in the 83rd minute turned out to be the game-winning goal.

This marks the second post-season showing for the Firebirds since joining the ECC Conference back in 2012. UDC made it to the Championship final back in 2017 where they fell to No.1 seed LIU Post. They also made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

UDC will travel to N.Y. to face off against the No.3 seed Molloy College, on Wednesday, November 10 in the semifinals. The game is slated to begin at 7:00 pm and will be live-streamed on the ECC network. The athletic department will also be sending a fan bus (for students, staff, and faculty only) to support our Firebirds. E-mail joel.phillip@udc.edu and marlena.wright@udc.edu to RSVP.
