Firebirds Remain Unbeaten in the Conference After Match up Against Molloy Results in a Draw: UDC Men’s Soccer Celebrates Six Seniors

GERMANTOWN, MD- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team battled the Molloy Lions to a 2-2 draw, on Saturday afternoon at the Maryland SoccerPlex Stadium. The Firebirds also celebrated six Student-Athletes for Senior day.

Michel Egbame, Vitor Gomes, Eusebio Macedo, Zouhir Warid, Ioannis Kiotsekoglou, and Pierre La Noire were honored as seniors before the start of the game. Egbame score one of UDC's two goals in the game.

The first half of the game ended scoreless as neither team could get a goal to land in the back of the net. The last 10 minutes of the half also saw a red card ejection for a player from both teams.

Coming off the half, both teams returned with 10 players on the field. Diego Meza- Baez, who turned out to be the playmaker for UDC's two goals, sent a perfect cross into the box to Gomes who headed it to Egbame who finished the job at the 63-minute mark. This marked the first lead of the game in favor of the Firebirds, 1-0.

This lead was short-lived as less than five minutes later, a trip in the UDC box led to a penalty kick for Peter Meyer who was able to get the Lions on the scoreboard and tie the game 1-1.

At the 75:27-minute mark Meza-Baez made another fast break across the field which he then crossed to his brother Ivan Meza-Baez who sent the ball straight to the back of the net to give UDC the lead once again. As the game seemed to be over with less than a minute to go in regulation Genarro Vilardi scored the game-tying goal to lead the game into overtime.

After two scoreless overtime periods, the game was forced to a 2-2 draw.

Both goalkeepers Javier Abadia Torres and Nick Conklu tallied five saves. UDC out-shot Molloy 15-10 and both teams were even with six corner shots taken. Both teams earned one point for rankings with Molloy improving to an 8-5-2, 4-2-1 conference record and UDC improving to a 7-4-2, 5-0-2 ECC record to remain unbeaten and at the top of the conference standings.

Next up, UDC will take a break from conference play, hosting Bloomsburg college at the RFK Fields on Wednesday, October 27th. The game is slated to begin at noon
