Gomes Comes Through Clutch with Two Goals to Lead the Firebirds to Double OT Victory Over D’Youville.

BUFFALO, N.Y.- On a chilly Saturday afternoon, The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team improved their conference record to 5-0-1, in a thrilling double OT victory over D'Youville, to remain at the top of the standings in the ECC.

Vitor Gomes, now tied for first in the conference with 12 goals on the season, led the Firebirds to a 2-1 win over the Saints. Luis Felipe scored the first goal of the game for the Saints at the 73rd minute but Gomes answered immediately with an unassisted goal a minute later to tie the game 1-1 forcing the game into overtime.

The first overtime saw both teams scoreless with UDC outshooting D'Youville 2-0. The second overtime seemed to be going in the direction of a tie with four missed shots taken by the Firebirds but at the 108th minute, Robert Giroux crossed the ball to Gomes which he netted right into the back of the net.

UDC (7-4-1, 5-0-1 ECC) will continue conference play next Saturday, October 23rd, hosting Molloy College at the Germantown stadium. The team will also honor the seniors at the beginning of the game which is slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
