Cecil Scores First Goal of the Season to Lead Firebirds to 2-0 Shutout Victory Over Shepherd

WASHINGTON, DC-The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team took on the Shepherd University Rams at the RFK Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The Firebirds defeated the Rams 2-0, with goals from Thomas Cecil and Vitor Gomes, to remain undefeated at home and improve their overall record to 6-4-1.

The first half of the game saw UDC out shooting Shepherd 12-1 but having trouble landing one in the back of the net. A slick pass from Joseluiz Avalos to Cecil at the 30th-minute mark led to the Firebird's first goal on the game and Cecil's first goal on the season.

Gomes registered his 10th goal of the season and the Firebird's second and last goal of the game, off a free-kick three minutes into the second half. UDC went on to defeat the Rams 2-0.

UDC (6-4-1, 4-0-1 ECC) will travel to N.Y. this Saturday, October 16 to resume conference play against D'Youville. The match will start at 1:00 pm
