Double OT Leads to a Scoreless Tie Against Mercy; Firebirds Remain Undefeated in the Conference

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team fought their way through a 0-0 double overtime in an intense match-up against Mercy College, at the Mercy Field on Saturday afternoon. The Firebirds remain undefeated on the season improving their record to 5-4-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference.

The Mavericks outshot the Firebirds 13-8 but both teams were only able to get two shots on goal. UDC found themselves spending more time on defense in the first half with only one shot registered, compared to Mercy's five. It wasn't until overtime that the Firebirds were able to get into more of a groove offensively, outshooting the Mavericks 4-2.

Javier Abadia Torres was able to make two quality saves and numerous amount of blocks to keep Mercy scoreless.

UDC is currently the only undefeated team in the conference and after today's game climbed their way to the number one spot with 13 points. They will host Shephard University on Wednesday, October 13 at noon, before heading back to N.Y. on the 16th to resume conference play against D'Youville.
