Clutch OT Goal by Gomes Leads Firebirds to 1-0 Victory over Wildcats

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team defeated Daemen College in an Overtime victory on Saturday afternoon at the RFK Fields. UDC improved to a 3-4 overall record and a 2-0 record in ECC play.

Coming into Saturday's game, both teams were 1-0 on the conference. Tensions were high as both teams fought to remain undefeated. UDC played most of the game on offense putting a lot of tension on the Daemen defense. The Firebirds outshot the Wildcats 18-4 but couldn't seem to connect any into the back of the net. A scoreless first and second half which ended in a red card for Joseluiz Avalos in the 87^th minute left the Firebirds a man down going into overtime.

Despite the disadvantage of having one less player on the field, the Firebirds fought to keep the Wildcats at bay. Up until the 98^th minute, both teams remained scoreless, but a great pass from Eduardo Bugay from across the field to Vitor Gomes ended in a clutch goal for the Firebirds to take the victory.

UDC (3-4, 2-0 ECC) will head to Staten Island on Wednesday, September 29^th to continue conference play against the CSI Dolphins. The game is slated to begin at 3:30 pm.
