UDC Defeats SRU 3-2 in Overtime to Secure First Win of the Season

Washington, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team picked up their first victory of the season, in an intense overtime battle between Slippery Rock University, on Wednesday afternoon at the RFK Stadium.

Michel Egbame led the Firebirds with his first goal of the season and assisted Ignacio Pericet in his second goal of the season. Vitor Gomes scored the goal-winning shot for UDC with a penalty kick, in overtime to end the game 3-2.

In their first home game of the season, the Firebirds came out blazing with back-to-back goals from Egbame and Pericet to lead the Rock's 2-0 just six minutes into the first half. UDC would hold onto this lead going into halftime.

The Rock's went on to turn the game around in the second half, with Alejandro Fernandez and Luke Gildea each scoring a goal to tie the game 2-2, forcing the game into overtime. At the ninth minute, Gomes was fouled in the box which led to his game-winning penalty kick.

Zouhir Warid assisted Egbame in the Firebird's first goal and Goalkeeper Javier Abadia Torres had a season-high six saves.

UDC (1-4, 0-0 ECC) will begin conference play this Saturday, September 18, in N.Y. against St. Thomas Aquinas College.
