Firebirds Suffer Tough loss at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team fell 4-1 to Millersville University, Sunday afternoon at the Pucillo Field. Senior forward Vitor Gomes scored the Firebirds only goal of the game.

With weather conditions less than ideal, both teams found themselves adjusting to an off and on rain. The first 30 minutes of the game saw the scoreboard at 0 for both the Firebirds and the Marauders. This changed when freshman Jakob Braman from Millersville, sunk a shot at the 32nd minute mark to take the lead over UDC 1-0.

Coming off half-time with the score still at 1-0 in favor of the Marauders, it was still anyone's game. Millersville was able to open their lead 2-0, around the 17-minute mark but UDC responded with their first and only goal of the game, which came from Gomes. The Marauders were able to secure their win with back-to-back goals within the last five minutes of the game to set the final score at 4-1.

The Firebirds (0-2, 0-0) will head to Mercyhurst for their next game on Friday, September 10th at 1:00pm.
