Firebirds Fall, 4-0 at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team was defeated, 4-0 by host Lock Haven University in non-regional NCAA Division II action Wednesday afternoon at Stern Athletic Complex.

The Firebirds (1-2) controlled the pace of the game early, out-shooting the Bald Eagles, 5-2 through the first 35 minutes of play. Still, with none of those shots on goal, LHU struck first when Reggie Holt knocked in the game's first goal following a scrum in front of the net at the 38:20 mark. The Bald Eagles would take a 1-0 lead heading into intermission.

In the 2nd half, Lock Haven immediately went on the attack, firing four shots within the first six minutes of play. Ultimately, after following up on Chase Tackett's blocked shot in front of the net, Zach Hommey scored on the rebound right around the 51-minute mark to put LHU ahead, 2-0.

UDC attempted to fight its way back as the Firebirds took the next five shots of the game – three of which were by the team's leading scorer, sophomore midfielder, Gabriel Torres. Only one of those shots – the first of three by Torres - was on target, however, and Lock Haven goalkeeper Camden Cook was up to the task.

Lock Haven (2-0-1) went on to add two more insurance goals at 81:13 and 82:29 as the Bald Eagles won by a comfortable, 4-0 margin.

Next up, UDC will visit NCAA Division II East Region foe Nyack College out of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) on Saturday, September 9th at 2 p.m.
