Torres, Salinas Furio Earn Men’s Soccer All-East Coast Conference Honors
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – The University of the District of Columbia's Gabriel Torres and Victor Salinas Furio earned Second Team and Third Team Men's Soccer All-East Coast Conference honors, respectively, as voted on by the league's head coaches.
Torres finished his rookie season among the top-10 in the conference in three statistical categories as he was 7th in goals scored (8), 8th in points (19), and 6th in shots (62). He scored at least one goal in six different games this season, including a hat trick performance in a 3-0 victory at East Stroudsburg on October 22nd.
Senior Victor Salinas Furio earned Third Team All-ECC honors for the second consecutive year as he anchored a stout Firebird defensive unit that forced three shutouts and allowed one goal or less six times throughout the season. He also assisted the game-tying goal in a 2-2 tie on September 28th at St. Thomas Aquinas.
The Firebirds have now had 10 All-Conference selections over the past three years under head coach Matt Thompson. The latest pair, Torres and Salinas Furio, helped UDC to a 4-4-1 mark in conference play this fall, and the Firebirds were a tiebreaker away from qualifying for the program's first ECC Tournament. Torres and Salinas Furio are among 16 student-athletes from this year's roster set to return next fall.
