Victor Salinas Furio Named CoSIDA Academic All-District™ First Team

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia's Victor Salinas Furio, a senior defender on the men's soccer team, was named CoSIDA Academic All-District™ First Team in recognition of his combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

As a First Team Academic All-District™ honoree, Salinas Furio will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Salinas Furio holds a 3.96 grade-point average as an Architecture major at UDC while also earning 3rd Team All-East Coast Conference status for his play on the pitch last Fall. In 2015, he finished with 10 points on four goals and two assists while anchoring a defensive unit that forced two shutouts and allowed one goal or less four times. This season as team captain, he's assisted one goal and anchored a defensive unit that has produced three shutout wins and five games of one goal allowed or less.

The Valencia, Spain native is an ECC Commissioner's Honor Roll award winner and a men's soccer representative on the UDC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The Academic All-District™ teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

The Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2016-17 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
