EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – Freshman midfielder Gabriel Torres registered a hat trick, including two goals in the opening 17 minutes, to lead the University of the District of Columbia to a 3-0 win over East Stroudsburg University in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
UDC (4-10-1) became just the second team to score three goals against the Warriors (7-7-1) this season, and the first to beat the Warriors on their home field since ESU's season-opening loss to Shippensburg. Torres struck in the 13th, 17th and 46th minutes, as he leads the team with seven goals this season.
ESU actually had a 7-4 advantage in shots, but freshman goalkeeper Joao Brusamolin made four saves to secure the clean sheet – his first career complete game shutout victory.
Torres' first goal was an un-assisted strike, his second goal was on a penalty kick, and he completed the hat trick only 13 seconds into the second half.
The Firebirds' two remaining games are against East Coast Conference opponents, with highly-coveted playoff spots for the top four teams in the conference still up for grabs. UDC will first have to travel to Brookville, NY to take on the No. 2 ranked team in the nation, LIU Post on Wednesday, October 26th.
