UDC’s Benhur Gebretsanie Earns East Coast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week Honor

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – The University of the District of Columbia's Benhur Gebretsanie was named East Coast Conference Men's Soccer co-Rookie of the Week for his efforts in the week ending Sunday, October 2nd. Queens College's Emgi Gousse was the other co-honoree.

Gebretsanie, a freshman midfielder from Arlington, VA, scored the game-tying goal near the end of regulation for the Firebirds in an eventual 2-2 tie vs. St. Thomas Aquinas. He took three shots in two games, and put two of them on goal.

Gebretsanie and the Firebirds will host non-regional foe Mercyhurst on Wednesday at Maryland SoccerPlex. Then, UDC (2-7-1, 2-1-1 ECC) will return to league play and host Daemen College on Saturday.
