UDC Men’s Soccer Defeated 3-0 at Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, DE – The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team was defeated 3-0 by host Goldey-Beacom College Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman goalkeeper Joao Brusamolin got the start at goalkeeper for the Firebirds and took the loss with three saves and one goal allowed. Senior Ever Guevera Alvarez replaced Brusamolin in the second half so Brusamolin could play the field, and Alvarez made two saves and allowed two goals in the final 45 minutes in net.

The Firebirds, playing in near-90 degree heat, had only two available substitutes to play in the field as they fell to 0-5 on the season. UDC outshot the Lightning, 15-9, marking the 4th time this season the Firebirds have tied or out-shot their opponent.

Goldey-Beacom (3-1), an East Region opponent from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), opened the scoring just before the 15-minute mark as Chahin Aghrim knocked the ball in from six yards out after winning a 50-50 ball. Rerom Delys was credited with the assist.

Following a 53-minute scoring drought, the Lightning got an insurance goal on a header by Aghrim off of a corner kick by Alvaro Martinez. GBC nearly doubled-up UDC in corner kicks for the game, 9-5.

The Lightning added a third goal for good measure in the 82nd minute as Mateus Silvestre knocked in a rebound after Delys's shot was saved by Alvarez. Delys was credited with his 2nd assist of the game.

The Firebirds will open East Coast Conference play Saturday, September 17th with a home game vs. University of Bridgeport. The game will be played at Georgetown University's Cooper Field at 12 p.m.
