Elio Hernandez Earns East Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – The University of the District of Columbia's Elio Hernandez was named East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the week ending Sunday, October 4th.

Hernandez (Health Education – Germantown, MD/Northwest HS) registered five points on one goal and a league-best three assists during a 2-0 week for the surging Firebirds. He had a foot in four of the Firebirds' five goals as he scored one goal and assisted another in a 3-2 win vs. Washington Adventist Wednesday night, and he assisted both goals on corner kicks in a 2-1 victory vs. Mercy on Saturday.

A four-year veteran midfielder, Hernandez currently ranks T-22nd in Division II with five assists this season and leads UDC with nine points (2 goals, 5 assists).

Over his four-year career with the Firebirds, he has accumulated 12 goals and 12 assists. With his two assists in the win vs. Mercy on Saturday, Hernandez surpassed Benjamin Diaz (2011-12) for 4th on the all-time career assists list.

Hernandez and the Firebirds seek their 3rd straight victory on Wednesday afternoon as they host league foe St. Thomas Aquinas. Hernandez is one of five UDC seniors who will be honored before the game as part of Senior Day at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Kickoff is at 2 p.m., with the ceremony beginning before the starting lineups.
