Firebirds Fall at Bridgeport, 1-0

BRIDGEPORT, CT – Lazar Baresic followed his own shot that clanged off of the post and scored the game's only goal in the 19^th minute of action as the University of Bridgeport defeated the University of the District of Columbia, 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Firebirds fired 13 shots, four of which were on goal, but Bridgeport's Fabio Junior made all four stops to preserve the shutout victory. UDC senior goalkeeper Louis Connor made five saves, two of which came in the first seven minutes of action before surrendering the gamewinner.

The Purple Knights out-shot UDC 9-4 in the 1^st half, but it was the Firebirds with a 9-6 shot advantage in the 2nd half. Marcus Mottley, Aaron Noel and Maurice Schwab each took a shot on goal in the closing half, but Junior stopped each one.

Four of UDC's losses this year have come by one goal as the Firebirds fell to 1-6-1 (0-3 ECC) with the loss. Bridgeport, meanwhile, improved to 7-1-0 overall with its 7^th defensive shutout of the season.

The Firebirds will next take on non-conference crosstown rival Washington Adventist on Wednesday, September 30^th in Takoma Park, MD.
