Nenad Smiljanic, Louis Connor Sweep ECC Offensive, Defensive Player of the Week Awards
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Sophomore midfielder Nenad Smiljanic was named Offensive Player of the Week and junior goalkeeper Louis Connor was named Defensive Player of the Week as voted on by the East Coast Conference office for the week ending October 12th.
Smiljanic registered five points on two goals and one assist during a 2-0 week for the No. 9 ranked Firebirds of the East Region. He had a foot in three of UDC's four goals this week, scoring and assisting a goal in a 2-0 win vs. Chestnut Hill and scoring once again in a 2-0 win at ECC foe Mercy.
Connor earned two shutout victories for the Firebirds this week at home vs. Chestnut Hill and on the road at ECC foe, Mercy. He had nine saves in the two shutout wins, including a season-high tying eight vs. Mercy. Included in his eight saves vs. Mercy was a penalty kick save at a crucial stage in the game with UDC only ahead, 1-0.
The Firebirds are 7-4-1 overall and in a three-way tie for 3rd place in the ECC with a league mark of 3-2. They will travel to play ECC foes St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday and then NYIT on Saturday.
