Men’s Soccer Volunteers at Rock n’ Roll DC Marathon

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team completed another community service project Friday, March 13th as it volunteered to help race event organizers in the distribution of race packets to registered runners at this year's Washington DC Rock 'n Roll Marathon.

Working the afternoon shifts the players were taken downstairs where they were put through basic administration before helping competitors through the process. In light of the Boston Marathon bombing last spring, security was more rigorous than the previous year which led to greater responsibility for each student-athlete. Each player was given a booth where they checked for identification and paperwork prior to the distribution of race packets to the runners. Each student-athlete worked a four-hour shift alongside volunteers from churches and local college fraternities.

"To help assist the runners prior to race day by reducing unnecessary pre-race anxiety by being efficient made the experience worthwhile," Assistant Coach Danny Wadeson said. "We look forward to continuing our excellent partnership with the Rock N Roll Marathon in 2015."
