Firebirds Fall to Bridgeport, 3-0 in Season Finale

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team was defeated 3-0 on the road at East Coast Conference foe, Bridgeport, in its 2013 season finale Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Firebirds end the season with an overall record of 7-6-3 which includes a league mark of 2-5-3. Bridgeport finished 2^nd in the league standings with an overall record of 9-6 and a league mark of 7-3.

The Purple Knights struck twice in the first half, with both goals coming from Danny Ruiz in the 31^st and 40^th minute. Bridgeport, which owned a 12-3 shot advantage in the opening period, took a 2-0 advantage into halftime.

The Firebirds tried to fight their way back into the game by taking 11 shots in the second half, but all five shots on goal by the Firebirds in the final 27 minutes of regulation were stopped by reserve goalkeeper, Lee Fenner.

Bridegport's Daniel Augenstein added a third goal in the 57^th minute as the Purple Knights went on to win comfortably, 3-0.
