District of Columbia Men’s Soccer Blanked 1-0 at Cal (PA)

CALIFORNIA, PA – Three days removed from an offensive eruption that saw the Firebirds score a season-high eight goals in a win over Molloy on Saturday, the University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team was shut out in a 1-0 defeat at non-conference foe California University of PA on Tuesday afternoon.

Jeffrey Kyei's first goal of the season just before the 11-minute mark was the difference in the game as the Vulcans handed District of Columbia its sixth road loss of the season. The Firebirds fell to 5-8-2 overall while Cal improved to 10-6-1.

Cal held a 7-0 shot advantage in the first half as Kyei struck on a direct kick from just outside of the box for the game's only goal on what was the Vulcans' fourth shot of the day. The host's would also take five corner kicks compared to zero by District of Columbia.

The Firebirds came out more aggressive in the second half, taking four corner kicks and firing 10 shots (four on goal). Senior Adriel Garcia (Physical Education – Sau Paulo, Brazil/Anglo Campinas), who registered eight points (three goals, two assists) on Saturday, led District of Columbia with three shots (two on goal), but Cal goalkeeper Shane Donovan was up to the task, making four saves in a complete game shutout victory.

Graduate goalkeeper Omar Gonzalez (Business Administration – Los Angeles, CA/Park View HS) made three saves and allowed one goal in a losing effort.

The Firebirds return to Washington, D.C. where they are 4-2 this season as they host non-conference opponent Felician College in their season home finale on Friday, October 26th at 4 p.m.
