Chestnut Hill Edges UDC, 4-3 OT, in Men’s Soccer
Philadelphia, PA: September 9, 2010—Carl Essenthier took a cross from Ryan Lannutti at 99:21 in overtime to give the Chestnut Hill College Griffins a hard fought, 4-3, win over the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Soccer Team tonight in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was Essenthier's second goal of the night, after scoring his first in the 58th minute.
Sophomore defender Mario Benegas (Business major -Frederick, MD) opened the UDC scoring with a header off of the corner at 28:44 into the match. Kaine Moar ( Mechanical Engineering major-Ontario, Canada), a freshman forward, scored the second Firebird goal 77:55 into the match with an assist from sophomore forward Adriel Garcia (Physical Education major-Brazil) on a cross. The third UDC goal was scored in the 86th minute by junior mid-fielder Tansu Korkmaz (Business major-Istanbul, Turkey Centro Indalatuba SP), unassisted.
Chestnut Hill's other two goals were scored by Maurice Blanton (55:55) and Chris Moore in the 86 minute. UDC freshman goal keeper Kyle Heatherington (Ontario, Canada) faced 22 shots on goal and made 6 saves, while Chestnut Hill's goal keeper Mike Goldstein faced 22 shots on goal and also made 6 saves.
UDC, 0-2-1, returns to the field for their season home opener on Sunday, September 12, at 1 p.m., against Bloomsburg University.
