UDC Closes Out Soccer Season With, 3-1, Win over Chowan

 

 Washington, DC: November 6, 2009-Playing an inspired game as they celebrated "Senior Day", the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Soccer Team closed out its 2009 season with a, 3-1, defeat of the Chowan University Hawks this afternoon at the UDC Soccer Field. Freshman forward Selvin Bermudez (Washington, DC) led the Firebirds to the win scoring two goals, one in the 8th minute with an assist from freshman defenseman Victor Saravia (Sterling, VA), and the other in the 82nd minute on a penalty kick.

 Five seniors were honored as they concluded their collegiate playing career during today's match. Defenseman Ordingas Anyabuike (Washington, DC), goal keeper Kareem Gray (Gasparillo, Trinidad), defenseman Nersa Looky-Djobo (Lome, Togo), mid-fielder Isiah Munoz(Grafton, OH) and forward Kendel Penny (Gasparillo, Trinidad) were honored during pre-match ceremonies.

 Looky-Djobo scored the 3rd UDC goal in the 84th minute with an assist from mid-fielder SamShehadeh (Falls Church, VA). Chowan's lone goal was scored by junior forward Ali Abdi in the 27th minute, unassisted.

 With this win, UDC ended their season with a 4-12-1 record.
