UDC Sweeps Salem, 10-0, in Soccer

 Washington, DC: November 1, 2009- Sophomore defender Kevin Santos ( Sterling, VA) performed a hat trick, scoring three goals, to lead the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds to a,10-0, shutout of the Salem International University Tigers this afternoon at the UDC Sports Complex Soccer Field. Santos scored goals in the 37th and back to back goals in the 39th minute, with assists from senior forward Kendel Penny (Gasparillo, Trinidad) to help engineer the win.

 Others scoring for the Firebirds were Penny in the 8th minute, unassisted, and in the 28th minute with an assist from Santos. Junior mid-fielder Sory Doumbia (Bamako, Mali) scored in the 27th minute, unassisted, and in the 51st minute, also unassisted.

 Allan Aguilar, a freshman defender from Woodbridge, Virginia scored in the 61st minute with an assist from sophomore mid-fielder Alex Velasco (Sterling, VA). Coming in off the bench in the final period, senior defender Nersa Looky-Djobo (Lome, Togo) scored on a header in the 79th minute with an assist from freshman mid-fielder Mario Benegas (Frederick, MD).

 UDC (3-12-1) will close out its regular season at home on Friday, November 6, at 3 p.m., against Chowan University.
