Bloomsburg Edges UDC 1-0 in Double Overtime

Bloomsburg, PA: October 3, 2009—The Bloomsburg University Huskies barely edged the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds, 1-0, in an exciting double overtime men’s soccer match this afternoon in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. Freshman forward Bryce Shaffer (Gettysburg, PA) kicked the game winning goal in the 101st minute of the second overtime.

UDC goal keeper senior Kareem Gray (Gasparillo, Trinidad) made a season-high 13 saves in stopping the Huskies from crossing the goal line until the second overtime period. Bloomsburg tough defense limited UDC to 8 shots during the game, while they took 18. The UDC defense made the going tough for Bloomsburg in keeping the match tied until the 101st minute of double overtime.

The 2-8-1 Firebirds return to the field on October 13, at home against Millersville University.
