JONATHAN ORLANDO RANKED 8TH IN NCAA SOCCER
Washington, DC-- University of the District of Columbia men’s soccer player Jonathan Orlando is ranked 8th in goals scored among NCAA Division II schools at the end of the 2005 season. Orlando, a freshman business major at UDC is a 2005 graduate of Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, DC.
Jonathan is also ranked 10th in points
per game among DII schools, placing him among the elite Division II
soccer players in the country. He is the team leader in six
categories; points, shots, goals, game winning goals, shots on goal
and assists. When asked how he felt about this recognition,
Jonathan is reticent about his achievements saying, “ While I
feel good about my ranking, I really didn’t expect to be such
a big impact player. Now that I have accomplished this, I feel that
I might have an opportunity to play soccer
professionally.”
Jonathan is the son of UDC Head Soccer Coach Osman Orlando.
Coach Orlando is happy about his son’s achievements and not
reluctant to commend or criticize him on the field.
The UDC Firebird Soccer team completed its season last Friday,
defeating Goldey Beacom College (3-0), avenging an early
season lost to them. The team got off to a slow season start, with
fewer players than expected, some of whom later sustained major
injuries. Yet, in spite of the distractions and numbers, the
Firebirds ended the season with a two game winning streak, a
(7-9-0) record, and ranked 19th in scoring offense among NCAA
Division II schools.
