Scoreless Last Quarter Results in Firebirds Defeat

ETTRICK, VA- the University of the District of Columbia's men's lacrosse team fell to Virginia State University 8-12, Saturday evening in their first ever meeting. The Firebirds fall to 0-2 on the season and the Trojans improved to 1-3.

Dylan Donaldson led the Firebirds with five points off four goals and an assist. Jordan McTeer, Julian Schemm, Najuane Phillpotts and Maxwell Hansberry each added a goal. Najee Wilson also made 13 saves.

The Trojans opened a 4-2 lead in the opening quarter but the Firebirds outscored the home team 3-2 in the second quarter making it a one point game heading into half-time.

Phillpotts' opening goal in the third quarter, and two Donaldson goals to to end the third quarter knotted the score at eight. UDC was unable to find the back of the net in the fourth quarter, while VSU netted four unanswered goals to take the win. 

VSU took 37 shots compared to UDC's 30. Both teams were even with 19 turnovers each. The Firebirds went 21-27 in clears and the Trojans went 20-22.

Up next, UDC (0-2) will head to Chowan University on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 2:00pm.
